Jessica Monsour, a native of Upstate NY, is an emerging artist. She received her MFA from Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY in 2003, and her BFA from The College of Saint Rose, Albany, NY in 1999. She has won several awards for her digital work such as The Picotte Companies Cash Award. Jessica has exhibited her art throughout the United States, from Brooklyn, NY to Greenville, North Carolina in numerous group exhibitions. She is an artist that utilizes the mediums of photography and sculpture as a means to express herself. Her work is surrealistic in nature and is well executed using film and computers. The twisted nature of her work pays homage to those who have influenced her. Among many Louise Bourgeois, Joel-Peter Witkin, Tarsem Singh and David Fincher are the most prominent.

Loathing is a series of six images that captures the artist’s struggle with self in society. It is about her “shadow”, her unacceptable attributes that are stigmatized by society's expectations. Through the struggle with finding societal acceptance one becomes deranged in her insecure world.

The mundane objects that Jessica has photographed capture the essence of history frozen in time. These images represent pure observation and the experience of a moment forever lost, but always remembered through the lens of her camera. From vast landscapes to snap shots of familiar places, one can witness for oneself how the world continues to change around us.
